Nigerian sprinter, Jerry Jakpa, wins 200m in Europe

A week after failing to make Nigeria’s list of athletes to the Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco, Nigerian sprinter, Jerry Jakpa, won the men’s 200m at the Citius Meet in Berne, Switzerland.

Jakpa came second at the just-concluded national trials in 200m and could not make the 51-man list.

At the Citius meet, Jakpa equalled his Personal Best of 20.59secs to finish ahead of AntunesDiogo, who recorded 20.70secs and Martina Churandy, 20.76sec.

In the same race, Jakpa’s fellow Nigerian, Ogho-OgheneEgwero, finished 7th in 21.30secs.

Also, Nigeria and African long jump champion, Ese Brume launched to an impressive personal best of 11.50secs to win the 100m semis, before going on to take the final in a new 11.41secs at the Turkish trials. This came after her massive long jump personal best of 6.96m.

At the KamilaSkolimowska Memorial in Centniewo, another Nigerian, ChukwuebukaEnekwechi, launched an impressive 21.26m throw, surpassing the Tokyo 2020 qualification standard of 21.10m to place 2nd in the men’s Shot Put, which was won by Michal Haratyk at an equal Polish Record of 22.32m. In the second place was KonradBukowiecki at 20.58m.
