The chief executive officer of RED, Adebola Williams; chief of staff to the chief credit officer, Barclays Africa Group, Sizwe Damane; founder of Joy, Inc., Chude Jideonwo; aviation finance consultant, Makoena Mabusela; and popular actress and film director, Omoni Oboli are among the emerging African leaders announced to be part of the prestigious Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellowship 2018.
As a flagship leadership development programme under The African Leadership Institute, the Tutu Leadership Fellowship Programme welcomes an elite group of Africa’s highest potential young leaders representing a wide range of sectors.
Among nearly 300 nominees of outstanding qualities from over 30 African countries, the candidates represent 10 African countries and various industries. Aged between 30-39, the selected candidates have demonstrated incredible wealth of leadership talent among Africa’s youth.
Speaking after the announcement, Adebola Williams said, “I am honoured to be selected among some of the most talented and influential change-makers on the continent driving new narratives and provoking action. The Tutu Leadership Fellowship is one of Africa’s leading platform interested in driving inclusive change for Africa communities, I have no doubt whatsoever that this current generation of Africans have the potential to truly transform the continent.”
The fellowship provides participants with intensive learning and broad experience on the principles and application of leadership, an opportunity to explore the issues and specific characteristics of leadership in Africa, including the global challenges and dimensions of an African leader.
Upon completing the programme, Tutu Fellows return to play active roles in their respective communities, countries and spheres of influence. As part of this network of global leaders, all Fellows are expected to attend AFLI alumni events, including functioning as ambassadors for the Fellowship across all segments of society.
