Obudu Mountain Resort, Cross River State

Obudu Mountain Resort (formerly known as the Obudu Cattle Ranch) is a ranch and resort on the Obudu Plateau in Nigeria. It was developed in 1951 by Mr. McCaughley, a Scot who first explored the mountain ranges in 1949.
He camped on the mountaintop of the Oshie Ridge on the Sankwala Mountains for a month before returning with Mr. Hugh Jones a fellow rancher who, in 1951, together with Dr Crawfeild developed the Obudu Cattle Ranch.
The Obudu Cattle Ranch (a.k.a) Obudu Mountain Resort is located on the Obudu Plateau close to the Cameroon Border in the North Eastern part of Cross River State of Nigeria, approximately 110 km east of the town of Ogoja and 65 km from the town of Obudu in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State. It is about 30 minutes’ drive from Obudu town and is about 332 km drive from Calabar, the Cross River State capital. The climate on the obudu cattle ranch is the semi-temperate mountain climate, which is the general weather condition experienced on the obudu plateau due to its altitude.
The Obudu plateau with an altitude of 1, 716 metres above sea level enjoys a climate typical of the temperate regions of the world. It is the highest peak in the Cross River State, Nigeria.

At the base of the hills on which the ranch is located lies a world-class built water park with state-of-art swimming facilities and water slides for children, teens and adults. The hilltop (cattle ranch) is about 11 km of winded road from the base and can be accessed by either the cable-car or the road.
The ranch has numerous pleasant mountain-area and country-side views. Tourist attractions include: the water park, cable-car, ranch cattle and horses, waterfall, Becheve nature reserve (canopy walk), honey and yoghurt factories and the ancient Anape village.
Cattle are bred on the ranch for their fresh milk, butter, meat , and cheese, and these are available at the dairy section daily. Cows were brought in from Holland for management by Farmfresh Limited to give residents of the ranch best of naturally processed dairy products. There are also birds and pigs that produce eggs and pork respectively, in commercial quantities.
