It is a funeral ritual during which the spirit of one’s deceased parent is appeased by preparing a special masquerade, which represents the reincarnated deceased person. The ancestral masquerade (Alekwu) appears for the first time before the living relation and is treated with reverence by the clan.
It comes up when necessary and it stays three days. Alekwu-Afia, Eje-Okwu Ogrinya, Aja, Ekwunokwu masquerades appear united in the night. The festival takes place in Apa, Ogbadibo, Otukpo and Okpokwu.
